Visual testing (VT) is the first step of every NDT programme and the most frequently applied inspection in welded fabrication. It is performed before welding (joint preparation, bevel angle, root gap), during welding (pass control, interpass cleaning) and after welding (weld geometry, surface discontinuities).
What do we check?
- Joint preparation and fit-up tolerances
- Weld profile, convexity/concavity, undercut, overlap
- Surface porosity, cracks, crater defects, arc strikes
- Dimensional conformity and marking/traceability
Evaluation
Results are evaluated against the quality levels (B, C, D) of EN ISO 5817 (steel) or EN ISO 10042 (aluminium), or the project specification. Our reports are photographic, location-based and linked to the ITP.
