Ultrasonic testing is a volumetric method that involves no radiation, gives immediate results and can determine the depth of a flaw. For butt welds of 8 mm and above, thick-section steel structure connections and pressure equipment it is a strong alternative to radiography.
Scope
- Angle-beam examination of butt and T-joint welds (EN ISO 17640 Level A/B/C)
- Lamination checks on plates and forgings (EN 10160)
- Verification of penetration depth and partial-penetration welds
- Inspection before/after post-weld heat treatment (PWHT)
- On-site application on bridge, crane girder and tower welds
Evaluation
Indications are evaluated according to EN ISO 11666 acceptance levels (Level 2 / Level 3), EN ISO 23279 characterisation or AWS D1.1 Table 6.2/6.3 criteria. Calibrated instruments and reference blocks ensure traceable reporting.
