EN ISO 3834 defines the requirements that fusion welding manufacturers must meet to ensure weld quality. It has three levels: 3834-2 comprehensive, 3834-3 standard and 3834-4 elementary quality requirements. EN 1090 (EXC2 and above), EN 15085, EN 13445 (pressure vessels), EN 12952/12953 (boilers) and many customer specifications require EN ISO 3834 compliance as a prerequisite.
Certification process
- Gap analysis: Assessment of the current situation against the clauses of the standard and an action plan.
- System set-up: Definition of the welding coordination structure (EN ISO 14731), completion of WPS/WPQRs and welder certificates, equipment calibration, consumable management, heat treatment and inspection procedures, traceability and records.
- Pre-audit: Preparation for the certification audit and closing of non-conformities.
- Certification audit: Coordination of the accredited certification body audit and obtaining the certificate.
- Ongoing support: Annual surveillance audits and keeping the system alive.
