A Welding Procedure Qualification Record (WPQR / PQR) is the document that proves by testing that a welding procedure delivers the required mechanical and metallurgical properties. The use of qualified WPSs is mandatory in all welded fabrication under EN ISO 3834, EN 1090, EN 15085 and PED.
How does the process work?
- Scope analysis: Material groups (ISO/TR 15608), thickness and diameter ranges, welding positions and processes are defined; the range of existing WPQRs is evaluated to avoid unnecessary repeat tests.
- pWPS preparation: The preliminary welding procedure specification is prepared in EN ISO 15609-1 format.
- Test piece welding: Welding is carried out in the presence of our examiner; heat input, preheat and interpass temperature are recorded.
- NDT and destructive tests: VT, MT/PT, UT/RT; followed by tensile, bend, impact, macro and hardness tests in an accredited laboratory.
- WPQR and WPS: Results are evaluated, the WPQR is approved by the certification body and production WPSs are derived.
